HEALING OF MEMORIES

Healing of Memories through visualization/guided imagery is popular at “Life in the Spirit” Seminars and Charismatic Conferences. The method is the offshoot of Freudian and Jungian theories; to turn people away from God to the self. It is not a new concept however; visualization has been used by shamans, witchdoctors, and sorcerers for thousands of years. To conjure up the image of Jesus as a type of spirit guide in order to forgive the person who supposedly caused us hurt and then to alter the event contradicts the tenets of our Catholic faith.
Healing of Memories is based on the idea that we need something more than God’s love and forgiveness in order to love and to forgive others. Since we know that Jesus can never be called-up and forced to perform at our command, any “Jesus” visualized would have to be a demon spirit and not God. That is the danger of visualization; people are taught to experiment with things that God repeatedly condemned in both the Old and the New Testaments. And exposure to the occult can lead people into far more serious trouble than they ever dreamed possible.
