PREFACE

"I know that after my departure savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock.
And from your own group, men will come forward perverting the truth to draw the disciples away after them." (Acts 20: 29-30)
The Church Christ left us was not in need of renewal. Looking back to forty years of incessant proselytizing all the Charismatic Renewal accomplished was spawning a generation of confused Catholics. Most Catholics no longer know their own faith. What they believe to be “Catholic” is more akin to Protestantism or to some pagan religion than to Catholicism. What the Church teaches and what the Catholic of today thinks the Church teaches are miles apart. Today’s Catholics follow movements, apparitions, popular culture -- all the way where the yellow brick road ends. Historically Catholics relied on their parish priests and the ‘teaching nuns’ to interpret the faith for them. But the priests and the nuns have ceased to be reliable interpreters of the faith. Most of them relinquished the task of teaching the faith anyway. Passing on the faith is now up to the lay leadership. Of course one would be hard-pressed to find orthodoxy among lay leaders. They are either charismatic or charismatic influenced. They tend to look on traditionally minded Catholics as pharisees, troublemakers and sowers of dissention. Traditionally minded Catholics may not be effective in a progressive parish, yet they cannot remain complacent either; not if they want to remain Catholic.
The source of all Catholic teaching is the Bible and Tradition. The Dogmas, the Catechism, the Fathers' writings, the Canon Laws, and the Papal Encyclicals illuminate both Bible and Tradition.
The claim that charismatic theology is based on the Bible and Tradition is simply not true. The charismatic movement justifies itself only by PERVERTING Bible and Tradition. Charismatics favorite sourcing of course is the Bible, yet the Bible does not substantiate charismatic theology at all; charismatic theology is not able to prove itself with the Bible except by REVERSE APPLICATIONS. Logic rejects the charismatic analysis of Bible passages as utter nonsense.
There is no “charismatic theology” within Catholic Tradition either. In fact nothing concerning the Charismatic Renewal can ever move into the realm of Catholic Tradition, because charismata is in blatant contradiction to the Catholic faith. You see… rational evaluation is not possible; IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BRING SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTIONS, on which the Charismatic Renewal rests, INTO THE REALM OF CATHOLIC TRUTH.
