NEVER KNEW YOU

Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?'
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.' (Matthew 7:22-23 )
Jesus spoke of MANY! Who will be these people standing before God and pleading to get into heaven on account of the mighty deeds they have done in Jesus’ name? Yet Jesus will tell them “I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers” (verse 23)
Who will be these people rejected on Judgment Day? The word ‘many’ indicates this will be a large group of people and the allusion to ‘mighty deeds’ suggests a prominent group. Further clues are that these people will appear to be Christ’s followers and they will make claims to ‘prophesy and do mighty deeds’ in his name.
Up until now, with the exception of charismatics, there has not been such a group to meet all of these criteria. The identifying marks Jesus left us fit the Charismatic Renewal perfectly; inside the Church as well as elsewhere.
