TONGUES CONFUSION



Much like a virus, charismatic theology has implanted itself into every accessible module of our faith; including the Catholic Encyclopedia.

“On the day of Pentecost the Apostles did indeed speak the various languages of their hearers, but the still unbaptized Gentiles in the house of Cornelius "speaking with tongues, and magnifying God”(Acts 10:46) and the twelve newly baptized Ephesians speaking with tongues and prophesying (Acts 19:6) had no reason for using any strange tongue.” (New Advent Catholic (on-line) Encyclopedia 2005)

This conclusion of course is WRONG, because the two tongue speaking examples from Acts 10:46 and 19:6 were not that different from what took place at Pentecost and also because there was a rather important reason for their occurrence.

First of all, these tongues were understood by the people present; same as at Pentecost, secondly they were actual languages; same as at Pentecost, and third, they were signs for the Jews; same as at Pentecost. Perhaps the only variable was that the sign was for the sake of the elect rather than the unbeliever. The reasons, however, were just as important; because what occurred in Acts 10:46 and 19:6 clearly demonstrated to the Jews that pagan converts received the exact same outpouring of the Holy Spirit as the apostles at Pentecost.

Catholic Orthopraxis is denoted by the Code of Canon Law: it spells out what we have TO DO. Because “Truth is not determined by a majority vote" -- Pope Benedict XVI.
