POLITICALLY CORRECT LITJARGON

“Holy Mass” and “Mass” - these are words Catholics have used for centuries. That is because for two Thousand years the Mass was thought of as Christ’s Sacrifice. So why do we call the Mass “Eucharistic Celebration” and why do we say “Celebrating the Mass”? When did the Catholic Mass morph into a party or community celebration?
The Missale Romanum and the Graduale Romanum still calls the Mass “cantus ad offertorium”. But "offertory" has been replaced by “Preparation of the gifts”. "Preparation of the gifts" is not the same as offering them. The traditional devotion of offering ourselves with the bread and wine on the corporal has been obliterated by a substitution of words as well.
Since people gather for work and for various social events, using the term “Gathering” for the first part of the Mass (introit, penitential rite, Gloria, and collect), people being in the same place became a sacred action;. Similarly, "Gathering Rite" replaced prayer with hospitality. These are gross trivializations of Catholic worship.
"Congregation" means the coming together of the faithful. “Assembly” on the other hand includes everyone gathered including the priest. If the intention was to minimize the distinction between the priest acting in “Persona Christi” and the faithful. (see Mediator Dei) – the use of “congregation” and “assembly of the faithful” has been quite successful.
The priest is not a chairman, so to call him “presider” is another attempt to eliminate the distinction between the priest and the faithful. One does not need the Sacrament of Holy Orders in order to preside.
“Minister” used to be the title of the Priest and the Deacon; anyone administering the Eucharist. Now everyone’s uncle is a minister. The ushers are “Ministers of Hospitality”, the cantor and the music leader are both “Ministers of Music”.
"Song" has been enshrined by the ICEL Sacramentary. But the use of “song” for the sung parts of the liturgy is a mistranslation of “cantus” (chant). Referring to the “cantus ad introitum” as “entrance song” or "gathering song" implies the use of pop tunes instead of proper “hymns”.
“Church” (the building) is a visible expression of the Church (the Body of Christ). “Worship Space” is a farce. A space is just a space; space could be anything, including the space in an outhouse.
