TOTALLY CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTER




You are watching them, holding your breath, but mostly you just hope that Johnny and Lisa will keep going to Church. They are up front strumming the guitar for Jesus. They have a mission to teach young and old wonderful new things. They promote hip and exciting music. They hold special collections for a new drum set or state of the art amplifier. They pass around a cup before mass to collect the gum. The cup goes around and kids spit in it. Nice. They are charismatic, cool and irreverent. They have access to your children's impressionable minds. Who are they? They are the youth ministers your priests may have hired for your parishes. He may have been told to do this or he may have decided on this by himself. But once the youth pastor is in for a short run, (because they never last) your kids will never be the same.

Oh they talk about the Holy Mother, the Rosary and promote Eucharistic Adoration. But they also promote an evangelical, charismatic style worship, dancing, waving hands, jumping, stomping, shouting, screaming, swaying, and various kinds of body movements that are out of place in the Catholic church. They aren't helping you. They make your families divided. They are not acting like someone who represents the Church. That is because they aren't. They are cheerleaders for youth culture. They make fashion and trendiness more important than unity of the body. They are dividing and belittling, not unifying and encouraging. They are immature in their faith and their agenda is not spiritual; it's personal. You need them in your parish like ten lashes with a wet noodle. As for being totally anything, Catholic youth ministers are totally Protestant.

Catholic Orthopraxis is denoted by the Code of Canon Law: it spells out what we have TO DO. Because “Truth is not determined by a majority vote" -- Pope Benedict XVI.
