UNMASKING THE CHARISMATIC HERESY "For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths" 2 Timothy 4:3-4 - "False messiahs and false prophets will arise and will perform signs and wonders in order to mislead, if that were possible, the elect" Mark 13: 22 - "The smoke of Satan has entered the Church" Pope Paul VI

CHARISMATIC POSITIONING

It’s not as if the Pope had an irresistible urge to revive the Latin Mass. The Summorum Pontificum has more to do with the widespread abuse of the Pauline Mass rather than his longing for the Traditional Liturgy. The bishops’ suppression of the Tridentine Mass following Vatican II and the subsequent abuse of the Pauline Mass were all unlawful and caused rapture in the liturgy. The Church has to address this before she can move to deal with modern heresies; charismatic heresy is being one of several that have invaded her since the last Council.

But watch for the next charismatic bandwagon; it could be the Latin Mass. Charismatics have a fascination with strange tongues anyway, plus they have no qualms about syncretizing (not a real word, however useful), and last but not least they are always eager to jump on the next bandwagon, perhaps even the Tridentine Mass. We keep reading about these charismatic priests planning to offer the Traditional Mass “once in a while”. My guess is that if they do that, nobody can accuse them of sabotaging the Pope and in the meantime they can carry on with their liturgically challenged charismatic masses. This is nothing more than positioning; to safeguard charismatic interests and to prove to the world that they are as Catholic as the next guy. I wonder how they will abuse the Traditional Liturgy once it becomes a regular occurrence, because charismatics are not able to keep from reinventing what they touch. Just look at what they have done to Eucharistic Adoration! So watch for Latin Liturgical Abuse; it’s coming.

After forty years of modernist shenanigans most of what people want is valid masses with no abuse. Could the Traditional Liturgy accomplish all that? The Pope seems to think so. Thus I hope he will move fast with the next phase of his liturgical reform, because the bishops are not eager to comply; in fact they are dragging their feet with all sorts of excuses, in their customary noncompliant kind of way. And even where it is restored, the Traditional Mass will not eliminate all liturgical abuse. But I am not the Pope and here is hoping that I would be wrong. Or could it be perhaps that this whole “charismatic support” for the Traditional Liturgy is just a smoke and mirrors game? If discussions about some supposed Charismatic/Traditional “synergy” on the Fr. Z’s site is true, this so called charismatic enthusiasm for the Traditional Mass is just a whole lot of malarkey. To put it simply; a whole lot of nothing going nowhere soon.

After reading through all that charismatic positivity (what else) about the Franciscan University at Steubenville and the charismatic friars’ response to the Holy Father’s Summorium Pontificum there – it is clear the charismatic/traditional “synergy” is just wishful thinking. If not for jumping on the bandwagon for the novelty of it or with self preservation in mind, charismatics are not going to promote the Traditional Mass. That would contradict the charismatic brain.

About Me

I am a recovering charismatic and a Catholic Orthodox; observing orthopraxis to the best of my ability. I acknowledge what the Church REALLY DOES TEACH; opposed to what some people erroneously say the Church teaches. “Catholic Orthodoxy” is proposed "to conform to the Catholic faith as taught by the Magisterium of the Church. So an "orthodox" person is one who is FAITHFUL to the teachings of the Church, whereas a "heterodox" person is somebody who rejects ANY Catholic dogma. Orthopraxis means "Performing the correct actions". Catholic Orthodoxy is defined by the Catechism: it tells us what we have to TO BELIEVE. Catholic Orthopraxis is denoted by the Code of Canon Law: it spells out what we have TO DO. Because “Truth is not determined by a majority vote" -- Pope Benedict XVI.
