LEGIONARIES FOR CHRIST

Clearly the Legionaries are ultra conservative, but they employed a same approach as the others; obtaining Vatican support under false pretenses and where justice was needed justice was not to be had or late and lacking.
The Legionaries of Christ and its lay version the Regnum Christi were built around the personality of Fr. Marcial Maciel. They called him “Nuestro Padre” (Our Father) and they say members of his group looked upon him as a “living saint.” But the fact is that Fr Marcial was more like a rock star - sometimes arriving in a helicopter to be greeted by screaming fans.
No criticism of diocesan ordinary (bishop) was ever permitted within the Legion; no matter what scandal, liturgical abuse or doctrinal heresy could be attributed to a bishop. People argued against this rule on the basis that it distorted Catholic history and tradition. True enough the Legion would have dismissed many of our saints on the basis of divisiveness and undermining the ecclesial authority of their time. But when the sexual abuse scandal erupted around Fr Maciel the rules of quietism and the extreme protection of the leadership suddenly made sense. In the end the rules failed to protect Maciel. The Vatican publicly disciplined him on grounds of sexual abuse read it here. But even though the Vatican acknowledged Marciel’s offences; he was “forbidden to celebrate Mass, speak in public or to the press” and was urged to live “a reserved life of prayer and penance”, to this date neither Marciel nor any of his followers have taken responsibility and continue to deny any wrongdoing. The Legionaries reported that Marciel accepted the Vatican pronouncement “with faith, complete serenity and tranquility of conscience” (sic)
Pope repeals "secret vows" of the Legionaries of Christ, "precisely those which were used by the superiors of this religious congregation to protect themselves from possible complaints. The sources of news agencies indicate that these are "parallel measures" to the disciplinary penalty imposed on Marcial Maciel for sexual abuses in 2006." writes Rorate Caeli.
CultNews continues to receive serious complaints about the Legionaries from Catholic families; including claims of isolating recruits, deception, manipulation and secretiveness.
Support for those who were adversely affected by the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi Movement: ReGAIN and the Ex Legionaries Forum
Have anyone heard about a saint suing his critics? Because the Legionaries of Christ is suing ReGAIN “Reserved life of prayer and penance”? - "Our fundamental mission in the Church is to bring all people to know, love, and share Christ with others with apostolates and institutions in the fields of education, service to the poor and evangelization." reads their mission statement - Where does litigation fit in there... I don't know.
