OPUS DEI

In 1982 Opus Dei bailed the Vatican out of bankruptcy by $1,000,000,000. In the same year Opus Dei received its personal prelature.
Opus Dei priests and numeraries live in pampered luxury. They dwell in mansions, wear beautiful clothes, enjoy extravagant meals, their rooms are cleaned and their laundry is done by maids. Then they mortify their flesh to get close to God. But just get them into REAL poverty and see if they still need to self flagellate. And these mixed up, pampered people are advising others on how to live in authentic poverty.
Opus Dei is a wealthy, influential, politically conservative organization. In the religious sense Opus Dei can be either traditional or liberal; it all depends what is best for Opus Dei. Its founder, Fr JosemarĂa Escrivá wanted to wed the Church to the World, combining religious and worldly spirituality. Opus Dei is a good example of man searching for answers and trying to come up with solutions. “The Way” has inherent flaws; indeed the flaws of its human creator. Even though it has been recognized by the Catholic Church, Opus Dei has all the trapping of a false, man made religion. The members of Opus Dei are Catholic, but Catholic through the Opus Dei; Opus Dei first and Catholic second.
The hording of money, the elitism, the secrecy, the corporal mortification and the other questionable practices are human inventions, serving Satan’s purposes and not God’s. What madness prompts these people to wear the cilice and what blindness makes them think that tormenting their flesh is pleasing to God? Would God not prefer that they showed mercy? Do they ever go near the disenfranchised? No, they actually believe they are better than any other Catholic and in the footsteps of their founder are more than willing to support oppressive, fascist regimes. These are clearly works of the Devil and are not prompted by God.
Some would argue that some of our saints used corporal mortification – they were human after all, and not everything they did was saintly. Before evaluating an action one has to consider how it holds up to Catholicism and not if Saint Pio did it or not. Not everything Saint Pio did was God’s will. Jesus told the rich man to give away his wealth and to follow him. He didn’t say horde your money and use it to influence politics and once a week flagellate yourself. Obviously Opus Dei has fundamental flaws that do not hold up to the Beatitudes, let alone to the Ten Commandments: Opus Dei is a cult!
"Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest men of the 20th century and a very strong candidate for canonisation. But I can’t get excited about his fast-tracking to sainthood because I’ve lost confidence in the whole saint-making process. Why? Two words: Opus Dei.
Sadly, it was Pope John Paul who “reformed” the canonisation procedures in ways that made them easier to be manipulated. And one thing Opus Dei is very good at is manipulation.." Read How Opus Dei ruined saint-making by Damian Thompson, Holy Smoke, More UK Correspondents blogs
